Eighty Billion Dollars. Priced In As A Disappointment.
On Friday, Samsung Electronics announced a shareholder return program of up to $80 billion β the largest ever by a Korean company.
Stock fell as much as 2.6%. Same day.
π Not because the payout was bad. Because it wasnβt big enough. Some investors had reportedly hoped for up to 150 trillion won in returns β well above the roughly 110 trillion won ($80B) Samsung delivered β and the market decided the correct response was to sell.
πΈ Eighty billion dollars. In cash and buybacks. Handed back to shareholders. Priced in as a disappointment before the ink dried on the press release β not helped by Samsung leaving the buyback-versus-dividend split unconfirmed until a board meeting in January 2027.
Samsung did one of the most generous things a company can do for its shareholders, and the shareholdersβ first move was to punish it for insufficient generosity.

Womp womp. π·
