Xbox Just Put a Coin Slot on the Buffet

🐷 Game Pass Ultimate $22.99/mo · Cloud gaming capped at 15 hrs/month from November · Premium 10 hrs · Essential 5 hrs · Overage pricing not yet announced · Microsoft says it affects 4% of subscribers

Microsoft promised the Netflix of gaming. Unlimited games, flat fee, play anywhere. That was $14.99 in 2020, when cloud streaming arrived in Game Pass Ultimate at no extra cost.

Here’s 2026: Game Pass Ultimate — $22.99 a month — now caps cloud gaming at 15 hours. That’s 30 minutes a day. One multiplayer match. One cutscene. One loading screen on a bad day.

🐷 Quick math: $22.99 ÷ 15 hours = $1.53/hr. GeForce Now Ultimate: $19.99 for 100 hours = $0.20/hr. Xbox is roughly 7.7× more expensive per hour — for the same thing, streamed from somebody else’s computer.

Run out? Buy more through the Xbox Store. Pricing “coming in November.” Announce the cap, hide the overage. Bold strategy, Cotton.

And NVIDIA got there first — GeForce Now started metering at 100 hours back in January. The whole industry is quietly installing meters on the all-you-can-eat sign. Microsoft just set the smallest plate.

Microsoft says it’ll impact “4% of subscribers.” Sonny’s heard that number before — it’s the corporate version of “this won’t hurt a bit.”

They spent $68.7 billion on Activision to fill the buffet. Then put a coin slot on each plate.

Womp womp. 🐷
